Brave New World response #3

From chapter 13 to the end of the book alot happened. John had been talking to Bernard and Helmholtz (bernards friend a literature teacher) about Romeo and Juliet and Bernard didnt like this. Jonh and Helmholtz would talk for hours and Bernard would never have anything good to say and would always interupt there conversation. The meetings where ery freqeunt and the three would just talk about stuff that they were not alowed to talk about in public. One day John was waiting for Bernard and Helmholtz to come over to his apartment when he heard a knock on the door. He was expecting to see Helmholtz but it was Lenina.

Lenina had been talking to a friend and had built up the courage to go over to John's and make him have sex with her. When John opened the door he was suprised to see Lenina. She walked in and started to get close to him for a kiss. John told her that he had something to say and started explaining what he felt for her in metaphores. Lenina was lost she never caught on that he was telling her that he loved her so he just said it. Then he told her that he wanted to marry her cause he loved her so much and he also told her that he wanted to wait untill they where married to have sex. Lenina didnt hear this though because she went crazy went he said he loved her and started to take her clothes off. She kept saying " well john why didnt you tell me you wanted me you should have just told me from the begining". Next thing you know Lenina had John againts the wall and she was naked trying to get him to have sex with her. John soon realized that she had misunderstood him and he got real angry. He threw Lenina away from him and started to call her a whore. Lenina ran into the bathroom and locked herself in. Lenina thought that John was telling her that he wanted to have sex with her when he told her he loved her but she was all wrong, John realy did love her but was so anrgry that she didnt understand what love was.

While John was all mad in his apartment he recieved a phone call. The person on the other line told him that Linda(his mom) was dying. While John rushes to the hospital, Lenina uses the oportunity to run out of the apartment. There were little kids being lectured on death while Linda was dying and they were laughing at her and calling her names. John got real upset and threw the kids away from where Linda was. Once Linda died John left the hospital. While he was leaving he noticed that a guy in a suit was giving people soma pills. This really upset him and he started yelling and telling the kids that they didnt need soma pills that they could be free without them. The guy giving the pills out went to a phone and called Bernard and Helmholtz. When they arrived John was puching the kids away from him because they were mad at him for throwing out the pills. Helmholtz ran towards the crowd and started puching the kids too. Next thing you know guys in suits and face mask ran in and sprayed soma gas. John, Berard and Helmholtz were sent to Mustapha Mond(controler).

Mustapha sent Bernard and Helmholtz to an island. John was not sent because Mustapha wanted to keep experimenting with him. John knew this was the reason he was not sent away so he escaped and went to live in an abandoned light house. While living there he was seen beating himself with a wip by some people riding by in a helicopter. Then a whole bunch of reporters were sent there to talk to John. He kicked every reporter out of his house and literaly kicked them in the butt. The news papers in London all talked about how the Savage(John) had kicked the reporters. The reason John would whip himself was because he would start thinking about Lenina and her naked body. One day he was filmed by a reporter while he whiped himself and cussed and called out names. John never knew he was being filmed so he kept whiping himself until he was tired of doing it. The reporter made a movie from what he filmed and it played all throught London. The next week after the premier there where alot of people around the light house shanting a John and wanting him to whip himself. They threw stuff at him and urged him to whip himself but he just grabbed the whip and treatend the crowd with it. Then a helicopter landed and out came a young girl and she started to flirt with him. He then realized what she was doing and started whiping himself so he would not think of her. Then he ran after her and trie dto whip her too. Every in the crowd started to say orgy-porgy and also started beating each other. The crowd loved to see John beat himself. Then everyone was put to sleep with soma. The next day John realized what he had done and was terrified.

A huge amount of helicopter came to the light house that day. When the people got out they went in and called for John. They called out "Mr. Savage, Mr. Savage", but John was nowhere to be found. This is where the story ended. I liked this book alot. The story was cool and all but i didnt like the ending. I would have liked to see John kill some people and try to overthrow the controler. This book is definnitly a book i would recomend to people.

Brave New World Response #2

In chapters seven through twelve alot happened that changed the way Bernard acts. Bernard asked Lenina if she would go with him to a reservation in New Mexico. At this reservation people still live ordinary lifes. Children are born naturally and people still consider sex a private act. Well before they can go Bernard had to get permision by the Director of London. The director told Bernard how he had once gone there and how the girl he went with got lost and she never returned with him. The director quickly realized that he was showing some emotional attachment to this girl and granted Bernard permision and yelled at him to get out of the room.



At the reservation Bernard meets a white boy(everyone at the reservation is dark skinned) named Jon and finds out that Jons mom is not from the reservation but from London. Bernard puts two and two together and realizes that he has found the girl the Director had told him about. Bernard meets Jon's mom Linda and decides to take them back to London. Bernard then calls Mustapha Mond (European Controller) and gets the permision to bring the two individuals back for scientific interest. The permision is granted and Jon, Linda, Lenina, and Bernard go back to London.



Once they arrived in London Bernard takes Linda to the Director. Linda cries out to the Director but he acts like he does'nt remember her. This scene takes place in a crowd of people and the Director is embaressed and quits his position. Linda is hurt that the Director is ashamed to show any affiliation with her. So Linda goes back to Bernard's room where she takes Soma pills (relaxatives) and sits all day.



Bernard soon finds out that everyone wants to see the two individuals he brought back with him and he starts to gain popularity. Bernard likes the attention because before he was considered an outcast but now everyone wants to talk to him. Bernard seems to lose interest in Lenina and also forgets about his views on why someone should have sex and starts seeing all kinds of girls. He would just invite alot of people to his house so they could hang out with him but at the same time see Jon and Linda. Bernard's sex life and social status goes through the roof, but one day this all changes. Bernard invites alot of people over to see Jon, but Jon realizes that Bernard is just using him so he does'nt come out of his room. Bernard gets humilated and everyone leaves his house.

While Bernard was acting all big headed he lost interest in Lenina. So Lenina started to like John. She would always try to go out with him. John liked her too but he liked to take things slow. John would go out with Lenina but would never try to make a move on her and Lenina was starting to get a bit frustrated but she would always be patient with him. As far as i now this is pretty much all that has been going on up until now.
